INVENT 2023 Finalist Profile: Feminatech

Founder names: Emma Stephenson, Lauren Fegan, Kathryn Morrison, Caitlin Mone and Zara Wilson

We want to help women better understand their menopause

What is your background?

All five of us study Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Queen’s University and each has experience working in large companies.

What inspired you to start your business?

We were inspired by the female role models around us entering menopause, and the desire to use our skills to develop a tool to support them.

What problem are you solving?

Many women feel unsupported and are unaware of how their menopause symptoms will impact them, particularly those within the workplace. There is also a lack of research surrounding menopause.

Who and where are your potential customers?

People experiencing menopause, companies looking to support their employees, pharmaceutical companies and medical clinics.

What do you think is the potential for your business?

We hope that our app and database will grow so we’re able to make predictions and provide tailored advice for each woman. We also want to support women in business and help to ensure they don’t have to leave work prematurely.

Where do you hope to be 5 years from now?

We hope to be further research into menopause, the symptoms and lifestyle changes that could help. We also hope to have rolled out our menopause in the workplace scheme across major companies in NI/UK, and to be expanding into global markets.
